Grand Knight's Message

Dear brothers, family members, and friends:

We are now three-quarters of the way through the fraternal year.  As usual, many things are going on for us!

We recently welcomed two new members into our council, Sendalio Garcia and Rick Spradlin.  Both of them received their First Degrees at a ceremony put on by our Council’s degree team on March 8.  This ceremony was conducted in honor of Father Michael McGivney. Congratulations and welcome!  Thanks go to our Membership Director, Brother Lionel Holgiun, for assisting these two candidates become First Degree members.  A few days later, on March 11, two other members of our council, Dan Lewis and Ric Sotelo, received their Third Degrees at a ceremony in Corrales. Congratulations!

We have selected the recipients of our yearly awards.  Our Knight of the Year is Brother Lionel Holguin, who as noted above is our Membership Director.  He is also our Lecturer, and in that position he has presented the council with fascinating pieces of history concerning the Knights of Columbus.  He is also active in many other activities:  He is a member of Risen Savior’s Social Justice Committee, he is in the church choir, he serves as a proclaimer at mass, and he volunteers at the Road Runner Food Bank.  He is extremely deserving of this award. Our Family of the Year is Richard and Christine Vigil.  Besides being very active in the council at activities such as our potlucks, Richard and Christine have for many years organized our Turkey Bingo, which is our biggest fundraiser and an extremely important event for us.  Richard has also led several efforts within our council to assist the disadvantaged within the community.  Christine is a Eucharistic Minister, and also volunteers at St. Martin’s and Road Runner Food Bank.  Finally, our Lady of the Year is Rose Debenedictis. Rose is likewise very active in numerous council activities, and she is a member of the choir.  She is helping to organize an upcoming choir trip in which the choir will perform for Pope Benedict XVI. Congratulations to all of our yearly award winners!

 Thank you!

 Vivat Jesus!
